April 2017 Sephora Play! Unboxing

Hi guys! I’m back with my second-ever Sephora Play box!

The price:

$10 USD per month.

The theme:

Step it up!

It seems cute, and the enclosed info paper included a lot of tips to help you improve your beauty routine. It promoted certain types of products, but not individual ones. While the general tips that this includes are more for beginners, I do like that this is trying to be more informative.

The bag:

I don’t really like this month’s bag. First of all, that’s not correct grammar, and second, it seems really vain.

The goodies:

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream
Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment
Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer
Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner
Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover
Marc Jacobs Daisy

The Peter Thomas Roth moisturizer:

I really liked this. It was deeply hydrating, easy to apply, and sunk into my skin quickly. My skin didn’t feel wet or anything after using this. It also felt like a cloud when applying!

The Kate Somerville exfoliant:

I wasn’t expecting this to be bright green! It seems to have both a chemical and physical exfoliant, which made it feel a little harsh on my skin and made me a bit sensitive to other products afterward. It did a very good job exfoliating – I have some dry, peeling areas that got a lot softer and smoother – so I’ll have to play around with how and when I use this to get the best results!

The Smashbox primer:

I actually just got another sample of this from Ulta, too! I don’t notice a lot with primers, partly because I don’t really check up on my makeup during the day, and partly because I wear a lot of BB creams that don’t need primers under them the way that foundations do. So it’s hard for me to judge this more than just like a lot of other primers I’ve used.

The Make Up For Ever eyeliner:

I really enjoyed this eyeliner. In swatches, once it dries down it’s not going to budge! It’s also creamy and easy to apply without any tugging. My eyes may have been a little sensitive to this, but it’s something I can work with.

The Sephora Collection makeup remover:

I already have a sample size of this, and I’m not crazy over this. I normally use a cleansing oil to remove my daily makeup but will bring this out when I need to fix a look or something. It does leave an oily residue on my skin and I’ll go over the area with a cotton round, if I can, to get rid of the feeling. Pretty much the only reason why I still have the other bottle of this is because it’s the only actual makeup remover I have.

The perfume:

Not for me this month. I’m not a big fan of this floral scent. Also I find it really weird that it’s called Daisy but doesn’t have a daisy scent. Shouldn’t this be called Violet instead?

The verdict: Overall a bit of a disappointment. I like trying new products in subscription boxes, and since the two duplicates I got aren’t really things I like, it’s even worse. The black eyeliner also felt kind of safe, especially since the booklet mentioned using different eyeliner colors to play up your eye color, even though it was a nice eyeliner.
