Hi everyone! I’ve been slowly but surely collecting beauty products to declutter. I did two declutter posts in the spring, which you can find here and here, but I think I might have even more products to go through this time around!
Laneige Multi Cleanser and Skyn Glacial Face Wash – these both just stripped my skin. I really hoped both of these would work for my skin, for different reasons. The Skyn one is good against acne, and the Laneige one doubles (triples?) as an exfoliant and makeup remover and can brighten skin.
29 by Lydia Mondavi Right Off the Vine Replenishing & Restoring Mask – I bought this on a whim and just never really used it. I like it – it ends up melting into a hydrating oil-type product by the time I wash it off – but I’ve used it five times max in a year and a half.
Vitamin C Eye Cream – This was a cheap cream I picked up at Burlington. I used it for a while, but it’s discolored and the expiration info is confusing. There’s a 12 month expiration symbol on the side, but an expiration date stamped on it that was more like 30 months from when I purchased it.
Origins GinZing Eye Cream – This is a Sephora sample I never used. I used this product before and thought it was okay, and ultimately I’d rather try new products over things that I already know how they perform.
Sunday Riley Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream – Mini review here – This irritated my skin.
Mario Badescu Drying Cream – This reminds me of putty. It’s really hard to get a little bit out and place it onto a zit without getting it on the rest of my skin around the pimple, which leads to my skin drying out and peeling. It does work well on pimples, but I never found a good way to apply this.
The face makeup:
Maybelline Dream BB Pure BB cream – Review here. Long story short, it’s too dark and looks super flaky and patchy on my skin.
It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream – Review here. This is actually in the shade Medium, and Light was already a bit dark for me.
L’Oreal Infallible foundation – I really liked this foundation, which is why I used so much of this. I just rarely use foundation and opt for BB creams (if anything) instead. Also, this is pretty old.
LORAC Pro Contour Palette – Contouring seemed kind of intimidating when I first was trying it, and having a real contour palette seemed like a good idea. But a full palette is a waste of money – I really only can use two, maybe three colors in here (the shimmer highlight, pale contour, and possibly the yellow highlight, which is pretty much my skin tone). It’s bulky for how much use I get from it.
Mally Liquid Face Defender Blush in Mimosa – I’m not big on the liquid blush consistency. It’s a bit annoying to work with – I’d have to blend it into the skin quickly and very well, and then half the pigmentation would disappear when I set my skin so I’d have to go in with a powder blush anyway. The coral color was very pretty.
Cargo Cosmetics Blush & Bronzer Duo in Catalina & Medium – I’m giving these up mainly because I never think to use them. Every time I’ve swatched the bronzer, I realized how buttery and soft the formula is. It’s a pretty color, but there’s a good amount of sparkle in it. The blush is pretty unpigmented, good for building up color, and while it’s not as soft as the bronzer, it still feels very nice. I think there’s something about the metal packaging where I just could never see the actual color of the products.
The Balm Balm Desert Bronzer – Again, a good bronzer that I just stopped using/barely used. With bronzer, I normally just go for my Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess with the brush that it came with, and I keep the brush with the bronzer. So every time I go to try something else, I have to dig out the brush and whatever I decide to use that day. This is also a tiny sample that’s kind of hard to apply correctly because of the size.
Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey – I’m not actually into the highlighter-from-space trend, and this honestly just seems more like an eyeshadow to me anyway (and I don’t like a lot of gold eyeshadows). It can be buffed out to look like gold sparkle on the skin, or it can be this metallic gold stripe on the skin (I think it’s also too dark for my skin and this makes that super obvious depending on the angle), but there’s no easy way to wear this day-to-day.
Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener – This weird product is essentially a liquid highlighter meant for under the eyes, but I’d just use it on typical highlighter spots for a natural highlight. Again, it’s old and I don’t use it too often. The tube also can leak and clot up if I store it right side up.
The eye products:
Eyelure Lash Adhesive, Revlon and Eyelure lashes – I never use false lashes. They’re not something I could wear out because they end up brushing against my glasses, and I never think to get them out for Instagram looks or whatever.
Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil in Plushie – The formula irritates my eyes and I have a similar color in a better formula.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow in Cyber Green – This is a very pretty dark olive green with gold glitter in it, but I just don’t reach for it enough and it’s old.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Uncut – I love cool, dark taupe-y shimmer eyeshadows, and buy a lot to try to find the perfect one. This has more glitter than shimmer and is a bit too dark and too purple.
Coastal Scents Style Eyes eyeshadow sampler – This was a Birchbox duo. I like both shades but they’re getting old and I never really reach for them.
Ulta Eyeshadow in Blackout – This isn’t a great black. I liked using it more for when I’d need black to be applied wet, like a wing or just when fooling around with makeup. Again, it’s old.
Pop Beauty Bright Up Your Life Eyeshadow Trio in Sugar Plum – These are very pretty shades. I especially like the silvery white and cool brown shades, but again, I just don’t really reach for this much.
Estee Lauder Pure Color eyeshadow palette in Enchanted Berries – Most of these shades are too warm for my liking. My favorite shade is the shimmery sand color.
Laura Geller Baked Multicolor Eye Palette in Autumn Leaf – Mini-review here. This is pretty, but I don’t reach for this much. I have similar shades in other palettes, don’t like how impractical the layout is, and find that I’d rather reach for a palette that gives me more color options than just four shades.
Revlon ColorStay quad in Exotic – I wanted a bright yellow shade, and this had it. The formula is pretty dry, and it’s just not a great quad. I also now have other yellows that I prefer, so there’s no reason to keep any of the colors.
Maybelline Graffiti Nudes palette: This palette is something I tried to use but didn’t really get into. I just have slightly better palettes with more colors I’d like to use and overall a more consistent, more pigmented formula.
Too Faced x Vegas Nay palette (depotted, can’t think of the full name): The shades were just never really my favorites. The neutrals are all a lot warmer than I prefer, and I just never really cared for some of the chunkier finishes.
Makeup Revolution Unicorns Unite Palette – Again, I just never really reached for this palette. It’s got a lot of bright, shimmery shades that work very well together, and enough neutrals to support them, but the mattes are a so-so formula and there are a few weird shades in here, like that copper.
Too Faced Country Palette – It’s got some pretty shades, but a couple shades are very glittery with a ton of fallout, and pigmentation is spotty. I also have some palettes with similar shades to the few that I like.
The lip products:
Nyx Lip Lingerie in Silk Indulgent – Everything about this was horrible! First off, picking out shades from Nyx’s black display is very hard to do. I’m pretty pale, so I picked a pale shade, and it’s too light. I also know that the cool nude trend is really popular, so I chose something that seemed a bit warmer and more in line with my skin tone. Again, I went with something too warm. This looked ghastly on me. It also made my lips look grossly dry and it peeled, so I won’t be trying the formula again. It’s sad because I like Nyx’s Soft Matte Lip Cream and Liquid Suede formulas, but there just aren’t many nudes or shades that I’d wear every day.
Too Faced Melted Peony – It’s a weird formula compared to everything else out there in that it’s a non-matte liquid lipstick that doesn’t dry down. This pink shade is a little out of my comfort zone and the application is a little unusual, so this doesn’t get a lot of love.
The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick – This color is a bit cool for my tastes and skin tone. The product also can fall out from the packaging, so I have to be careful with it.
Laura Geller Lasting Love Lip Stain in Pinot Noir – For something this dark, I’d prefer more red tones, like the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Stick in Rich Raisin, than the berry tones here.
TonyMoly Tony Tint Delight in Red – Tints aren’t my thing. I thought that this adorably-shaped, deliciously-scented liquid tint might be different, but I still don’t really use it much.
Manic Panic Marilyn and Vampire Red – These are old. Both could work as my perfect red, depending on if I wanted something brighter or darker, but both had undertones that were just a little too strong. I do like the formula of Vampire Red – Marilyn can tug a little in application. I also found my perfect red since buying these so don’t reach for them much.
The nail polishes:
I’m paring down my collection again. Some are just really old, some are things that came in sets, some were things I’d wear but never really did, some are more-or-less dupes, some were things I bought hoping for a certain color, etc. The list includes:
Ulta Aubergine Queen
NYC Rock the Party
Milani French Toast
China Glaze At Vase Value, In a Lily Bit
Dermelect Head Turner
Wet N Wild Eggplant Frost
Essie Mojito Madness, Taj-ma-haul, In the Lobby
OPI minis (names aren’t listed)
Atelier Cologne Vanille Intense and Escada Aqua Del Sol – Getting rid of perfume minis I’m not crazy over and will never really get enough use of.
That’s it for this declutter! I felt great about cutting down on so much makeup and nail polish, and still continue to go through more skincare (keep up with my monthly empties posts for that).
