September 2017 Empties

September 2017 Empties

Hi guys! This month I don’t have as many empties, and most of those are minis. It feels like every month I have fewer empties. Want to know what I did manage to get through, though?

The body products:

Sol Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream: This was from my August Sephora Play. My thoughts are still the same – great warm, nutty scent, but a bit of a waxy feel.
Would I repurchase? In a while, if it’s decently priced. I just stocked up on body butters.

Tuscan Hills Hand Cream: This was from a set of six scented hand creams. These suck. About half of what comes in the tube is air. The creams don’t actually moisturize my skin and I went through a different scent in about two days because it seemed to dry my skin out.
Would I repurchase? No.

Paco Rabanne Olympea perfume: I started out thinking this was so-so, probably because I was comparing it, but towards the end I found this completely enjoyable on its own. It might be a seasonal thing. Top notes: green mandarin, water jasmine, ginger flower. Middle notes: vanilla, salt. Base notes: sandalwood, ambergris, cashmere wood.
Would I repurchase? Possibly a rollerball?

The skincare:

Burt’s Bees cleansing oil: I actually really liked this! You can read my full review here.
Would I repurchase? Yes!

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate: It seemed like a pretty good exfoliator but nothing spectacular. I didn’t find the granules too rough and liked that this included chemical exfoliation, as well. I also appreciated that it was targeted for acne despite having a physical exfoliant.
Would I repurchase? No.

Up & Up Basic Cotton Rounds: I really like the Target brand. They’re always well-stocked and very consistent with different types labelled.
Would I repurchase? I already have.

SK-II Essence: I recently received this in a one-time luxury Sephora Play box. This seemed like a good essence. However, it’s not worth the ridiculous price tag as it didn’t do much more than my other essences. I probably spilled at least a third of this product from the large opening.
Would I repurchase? No.

Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm eye cream: This was from a free gift with purchase. It’s from the anti-aging line. My undereye area has always been my problem area, mainly with dark circles but now also with some fine lines starting. This was a very creamy, rich eye cream. It was very moisturizing but could be a bit thick underneath makeup. I’m not sure how much it did for my eyes, as anti-aging is more preventative for me.
Would I repurchase? No – it’s expensive.

Tarte Brighter Days illuminating moisturizer: This was a 100-point perk at Sephora. I liked the pearly illumination that was visible under makeup but not overpowering without makeup. And unlike some illuminating moisturizers I’ve tried, it was moisturizing and could work throughout the day without feeling like it disappeared a few hours in.
Would I repurchase? Maybe.

The sheet masks:

Dr. Jart Vital Hydra Solution
Mizon Joyful Time Bamboo
Sephora Rose Face Mask
Memebox I Dew Care In The Zone

I’m honestly not sure if I see much difference between any sheet masks? I don’t usually pay much attention to my skin before or after use. I tend to leave sheet masks on too long and don’t remove the excess essence. Having so much on my skin is always super noticeable, and the extra effects pale in comparison.

The makeup:

Ulta Very Vanilla lip balm: I picked this up on clearance about a year and a half ago. It’s based on coconut oil and was somewhat thick and gloopy. It was definitely hydrating and lasted all night, though. I got a bit more of the coconut than the vanilla in the scent, which was a slight turn-off. I like vanilla and could care less about coconut scents.
Would I repurchase? Probably, if I saw it in a display case or something at Ulta without needing to look for it.

Doucce eyeliner: I forget the full name and have sharpened down the name. This was a full-size Ipsy product, and I really enjoyed it! The eyeliner had long staying power, even on my waterline, and wasn’t irritating to my sensitive eyes. This was also very creamy without any tugging! It’s been really hard to sharpen this near the end because it’s so small, and the cap might not be able to pull off either. So I’m calling this done!
Would I repurchase? Probably not. I can’t find this brand in stores or at my usual retailers, and have no idea about the price. I also have a ton of other eyeliners to go through.

Mally Volumizing Mascara: This sample was from Birchbox, I believe. The wand was tiny, like half the length of any other mascara wand I’ve seen. I’d have to apply product along the inside, outside, and center of each lashline. I had to build the mascara up with several coats, as well. It wasn’t effortless and just seemed to give basic results after all that trouble.
Would I repurchase? No.

The hair empties:

OGX Fight Fallout Niacin & Caffeine shampoo and conditioner: I got these as samples from an online Ulta order. Honestly I don’t remember much about these. I’ve used OGX shampoo before and wasn’t thrilled with it. I needed a lot of product and unless it’s specifically formulated for something I need (frizz or dandruff) it doesn’t do much. I assume this is targeted for thinning hair somehow? My hair also looked a lot greasier than usual between washes. I can’t remember anything about the conditioner, but I do usually use more conditioner than comes in one foil packet.
Would I repurchase? No.

Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil shampoo and conditioner: I got these in this month’s Sephora Play box. I liked this shampoo more. Nothing about it really stands out in a bad way, and my hair didn’t look too greasy on day four. The conditioner packet came with less product than I normally use, but it was more effective than my current conditioner or something and still worked fine for my thick, long hair.
Would I repurchase? Probably not, from a price standpoint.

Overall, very few full-size products this month. That said, I loved finishing off both an eyeliner and a lip balm. Both products last such a long time! This coming month, I hope to finish off a lot of samples and packets, but I do plan on getting through some larger products, too!

  1. The Bum Bum Cream is my favourite! I can’t get over the smell and how smooth it makes my skin!!

I love the Burt’s Bees cleansing oil also! It works really great plus leaves my skin soft!

    1. I love them too! The only product of theirs that has failed me was an expired body lotion that smelled really off. I had no idea they made pet products!
