Hi guys! Recently I’ve been clearing out mainly expired products. I hit pan on a couple of these, and wasn’t sure if I should stick them here or in my empties posts. Speaking of, my October empties post should be my next post, and I will hopefully get back into my real blogging schedule of posting Monday and Thursday. This is a slightly smaller declutter than usual, but I still am proud of getting rid of several of these products!
Davines OI All In One Milk – The nozzle stopped working. I got this about two years ago in a Birchbox. I went to try it and no luck! It’s been so long since I used it that I don’t even remember how it performs. The scent is great – simultaneously a fresh clean hair scent but with rich undertones.
The nail polish:
Butter London Front Row – It looks like the polish dried the cap to the bottle. I liked the formula but don’t think the price tag is worth the brand.
Skyn Icelandic Relief Eye Cream with Glacial Flower Extract – Expired. I first bought this online without realizing that it had a three month shelf life. It developed a really weird smell after about five months of use. I got through over three quarters of this, and mostly just gave up using it because the scent got too pungent. Using something you know is bad near your eyes doesn’t sound like a good idea. Application was a bit weird due to the thick, bouncy consistency. Accidentally applying more product didn’t let it sink into the skin correctly, so I couldn’t even over-use it.
Soap and Glory Original Pink Body Spray – It just smells too young. I’ve never been a huge fan of sweet scents, even when I was a teenager. The rose comes through as grandmotherly if I spray it in the air, but if I use it all I get is the young, cloyingly sweet scent. There are some interesting notes here, but they get lost a bit. I’d rather pick up the body wash version.
Tarte Sweet Tarte perfume – I never knew that Tarte made perfume until I got it in a Tarte gift set. I’ve never seen it in any perfume or Tarte displays. Again, much too young for my tastes. While Soap and Glory is more of a fresh scent, Sweet Tarte has more of a warm vanilla base.
Atelier Cologne Clementine California – I first tried this in a Sephora Play box. A Sephora perfume sampler set included this, and I knew exactly where it was going. I’m not big on very strong citrus scents, and this was no exception.
DKNY Golden Delicious and unnamed (I think it’s from the City Woman line?) – These were from an old DKNY set that I got a few years ago. Since then, I’ve found a lot more perfumes that I like more and are more willing to wear. I used to just use one perfume mini until I finished it, but my collection has grown enough that I know I’ll probably never reach for them.
The face makeup:
Revlon Photoready BB Cream in Light – This was a blind buy. I’ve been using enough BB creams that I know what I like – thin, light-coverage formulas that sink into the skin. This was thicker and hard to work with due to the SPF.
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream – Review here. Again, a thicker cream formula that’s hard to work with, especially if you want to build it up. But still a much better product than the Revlon one!
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess bronzer in Medium – Another expired product. I wanted to get my money’s worth! I hit pan over a year ago, and for the most part used this daily throughout the whole time. It’s not the most pigmented, which I prefer in a bronzer. I’d probably either buy a dupe or possibly a mini if I were to purchase this in the future.
Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in Perk – A Birchbox sample. I’m not big on cream/liquid blushes, as I find them messy to apply and hard to get good results. This stick formula applies much better, but I still just never use it.
Nyx HD Blush in Pink the Town – Another panned product! I really like the warm pink tones here and I might repurchase. I bought this over two years ago, and decided to destash once I hit pan. This was my go-to blush when I didn’t know what to use.
Nyx Illuminator in Ritualistic – My first highlighter. I was placing an online order at Ulta and decided to try it. It’s a white gold color, and for my first highlighter, it was pretty good. I didn’t wear it a lot, and didn’t hit pan, but it is expired.
The eye products:
Too Faced Natural Eye Palette – I love this 9-pan palette. The colors were all great and cohesive. Again, something I decided to destash once I hit pan specifically in two shades – Nudie (a perfect transition/crease shade for me) and Push-Up (a gorgeous warm taupe/rose gold shimmer). If you’re looking for a nude palette without a million shades at a slightly lower price point than, say, a Naked palette, I’d recommend this. I don’t care for most of Too Faced’s other products, and I feel like the brand is going downhill in terms of both quality and image, so I might not repurchase.
CoverGirl Brow and Eye Makers pencil in Midnight Brown – Expired. The color is also a bit warm for my brows, and I have enough brow pencils that I don’t really need it. It’s almost too waxy and can be hard to work with because the color payoff is light for how much pressure I use.
It Cosmetics Brow Power in Universal Taupe – This has similar problems in that the tip of this was always dry or with some sort of film on it (like that build-up from using your fingers with powder products). I’ve scraped the top off and was able to use the product after that, but then the next time I use it I have to do the same exact thing again. The wide oval tip is also something I don’t quite understand the purpose of. Points for the sample size including a spoolie on it! Again, I have several other brow products that are easier to use.
The lip products:
Tarte x GraveyardGirl Tarteist Lip Paint in Texas Toast – I wanted to support Bunny (GraveyardGirl) and thought that Texas Toast would be an interesting shade for me to get. I didn’t own anything like it and hadn’t tried this Tarte line. So of course I’m not crazy over either the drying formula or the color.
Milani Amore Matte Lip Cream in Pretty – A very pretty pink shade with a delicious cupcake scent! I’m not sure if it’s the formula or the applicator (or both), but I never get a good edge with this. The color gets very thick with no way to smooth it out, and it just looks weird. The formula is also incredibly drying.
Nyx Butter Lipstick in Snow Cap – This is a truly nude shade on my lips that matches my lips almost exactly. This also is a little hard to work with – any lipstick I’ve come across with the term “butter” in it seems to deposit a lot of color in my little ridges/lines on my lips, but a thin layer on the rest of the lip. It just looks odd.
Revlon Color Stay Ultimate Suede in Socialite – Again, a weird lipstick, and possibly expired. The finish is more of a satin, but the formula is very tacky, sticky, and drying. It’s not the most pleasant.
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Innocent – I’m not a big lip liner fan. I have a couple other nudes, and this just isn’t as good as the others. I like twist-up products, and will usually use them on an angle to make a shape like a lipstick bullet. That always gives me both a sharp point and a flat edge. Rimmel made the plastic part of the tip reflect that, which somehow makes everything a bit messier and harder to use.
Not the largest destashing I’ve done in a while, but I’m happy that so many products were well-used or at least had valid reasons to stop using them. I may do a more extensive declutter in the near future, as my collection is larger than ever, but most of the products I have around me are things that I do like or will use.
