Project Pan Start

Hi guys! As you probably know, I love my empties posts (where I save up all my beauty-related trash from the month and talk about it). For years now, though, I’ve been making lists of products I want to finish off. And so I bring you my latest endeavor – a Project Pan collab with Rossy at AyrGalaxy! If you’re unaware of Project Pan, I believe it started over on Reddit and documents finishing off and panning beauty products. Because of course we all have a ton more makeup than we really will ever use. Essentially, you choose products to finish up, and then document how long it takes to finish products up with update posts every so often. Rossy and I are posting on the second or third Thursday of every month (depending on schedules), but it may be every two months based on how things work out! Of course, there were a few circumstances yesterday that made it hard for both of us to post.

I decided to pick products I will have to focus on using up (due to forgetting about them or having more popular alternatives), or products that I have too many of in my collection. For the most part, I tried choosing full-sized products or deluxe samples. On one hand, I try finishing off smaller sizes first and choosing larger sizes makes it more of a challenge. On the other, this Project Pan will probably last a while and I have a ton of products picked out already. Why choose products that I could use up the first month or two, or why add even more products to this list to “make up” for going through them so quickly?

We’re following two rules here. One is destashing anything that goes bad. Two lets me switch products if they don’t work for me. For instance finding another moisturizer if the one I picked breaks me out.

If you don’t know Rossy, she and I met through Beauties on Fire and have supported each other ever since! She blogs about beauty and lifestyle over at AyrGalaxy. She does subscription unboxings, different looks and challenges, reviews, and more! And if you haven’t checked out her blog, why haven’t you yet?!

Onto the products I’ll be using!

The body:

The Body Shop Body Butters in Almond and Passion Fruit: I love this formula. I like switching between rich, warm nutty scents and sweet fruity or floral scents. Passion Fruit is just started; Almond is maybe three-quarters full.

The Body Shop Moringa Shower Gel: I normally start with an acne wash and switch to this for my legs. My current acne wash squirts out too much product, so I don’t even need to use this every time I shower. About three-quarters full.

Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Cream: My feet looked and felt gross last summer. Winter hasn’t improved anything. I think to use this often, but never actually do. Mostly full.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration SPF 30: You wouldn’t believe how bad I am at applying sunscreen. This is years old and still about two-thirds full.

The Body Shop Shea Hand Cream: I bought this to maybe bring into the office for an unobtrusive hand cream, but it’s a little too strong for that. I do have a couple other hand creams at home to use up first. Unopened.

The cleansers and toners:

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser: Two tubes. The smaller one is older, and is the first one I’ll use up. Both are barely used. I need to finish off an existing cleanser before using these. I also often use an acne cleanser, as well.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel: Old. Similar to above. Unopened.

Skin Laundry Balancing Antioxidant Toner: Mostly full. This includes willow bark extract (which is a natural source of salicylic acid) and can be irritating at times.

Kiehl’s Cucumber Herbal Alcohol-Free Toner: Also mostly full. To balance out the Skin Laundry one.

Formula 10.0.6 So Totally Clean Micellar Water: Half full. I don’t have much use for micellar water and prefer cleansing oils for makeup removal.

The masks:

Skinfood Rice Wash-off Mask: I have plenty of hydrating masks that I do use often enough, so this doesn’t get used as much. Barely started.

Peter Thomas Roth Black Moor Mud mask: Unused. I always try to finish off smaller masks before opening this big one up, but it’s time to finally go through this.

Skinfood Egg White Pore Hot Steam Pack: This is supposed to replace nose strips. Or at least I thought it was. After I bought this, I rarely used my few remaining pore strips and then used this even less! It’s like a non-drying exfoliating mud mask. I may use it more as a mask instead. About three-quarters full.

The serums, treatments, and moisturizers:

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum: I got a sample of this, used it up, bought the full-size version, and then used essences instead of this. That said, this still is more effective than any of my essences and I’d like to use it in conjunction with them.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: I use acne treatments fairly often, but want to use up this neglected spot treatment. Mostly full.

Skinfood Peach Sake Emulsion (not pictured): This lightweight moisturizer is better off in the summer months or paired with another moisturizer. About half full.

Belif The True Cream – Aqua Bomb: I keep pushing off using this deluxe sample for using up the minis I keep receiving. No more! About a third of the way done.

Belif The True Cream – Moisture Bomb: As I’ve only ever received Aqua Bomb samples, I decided to pick this up. As my other choices seem watery and hydrating, I decided to use something more moisturizing, too! Unopened.

Missha Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Cream: I hear about the amazing properties of snails all the time. This is unopened.

Neutrogena Clear Face SPF 30: I need to get in a better habit of applying SPF to my face daily.

The eye makeup:

BareMinerals Gorgeous Eyes Unlocked eyeshadows (bottom two rows). These were from a holiday 2015 set of loose mineral shadows. I have two dark brown shades from this collection that I’m not including in the pan. You can see them a little at the top of my palette.

Fyrinnae eyeshadows in Snow Leopard, Sloth Snuggles, Steampunk, and Polar Bear (L-R along the top row). Polar Bear was a free sample size, so I don’t have enough to press into a pan.

Estee Lauder eyeshadow quad: There’s already a decent amount of shadow used up in all but the darkest shade.

Cargo Cosmetics eyeliner: This came with a palette. I have a ton of black liners, and want to go through this one to make my stash smaller!

Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Iced Mocha: I’m bad at remembering to use cream eye pencils.

Ofra Eyebrow pencil in Universal Taupe: This was a full-size and is now under halfway done.

The face makeup:

Smashbox Primer Water: I generally prefer the primer oil or original primer. I may use this more for a finishing spray. About three-fifths full.

Nyx Dark Circle Corrector: Is it weird to start a Project Pan with an already-panned product? I reviewed this a while back, but barely use it these days.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation: I’ve never used up an entire foundation before. BB cream, yes, but never a foundation! Unused (I just finished off the mini from my Sephora Play).

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight in Opal: I like liquid or cream highlighters but don’t always wear them. I’d like to finish this one off.

Lorac Beauty and the Beast blush palette: This gorgeous blush palette gets buried in the back of my makeup drawer. I’m not including the highlight shade and would rather use the three blushes.

The lip products:

Neutrogena lipstick in Rich Raisin: This is kind of between a balm and a stain. It’s super easy to wear. I’m about a third of the way done. The product is completely twisted up in the picture.

Urban Decay Revolution lipstick in Protest: A good everyday neutral color in a very comfortable formula. I’m over halfway done. The product is completely twisted up in the picture.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector: This is a super light gloss-type product. I’m over halfway done.

The perfume:

DKNY City Woman: This light, sweet floral is more appropriate for spring or summer. I’ll also layer it with other perfumes. About three-quarters full.

Tocca Florence: This smells more like plants. Yes it is somewhat floral, but it smells like leaves and growing things, too! About three-fifths full.

The hair:

Eva NYC dry shampoo: I got this for free. I’m currently finishing off another open dry shampoo, but should be able to start using this by the end of the month.

OGX argan hair oil: I will use this once I finish up an old oil. Unopened.

Tony & Guy Cleanse shampoo: I don’t like using shampoos with sulfates in them. I will therefore use this for cleaning my makeup brushes! Full but ready to use.

The hopeful goal:

I’d love to finish all of these products by the end of 2018! Some of these products might be hard to finish. While I do love making empties, I love enjoying my body and my collection even more. So I won’t be using all of these exclusively.

Don’t forget to check out Rossy’s post here!

  1. oh my goodness you have so many cleansers and toners, I only have like one of each and I’m almost done with them haha. On the other hand, I have a ton more masks than you do that I really would like to put a dent in them 🙂
Even though it’s not photographed, I’ve been thinking about buying the Skinfood Peach Sake Emulsion and their toner as well because I’m running out. Still looking for other cheaper options but I’m also very eager to try K-beauty products!
Ahh your eyeshadows are more used up than mine, I’m gonna have trouble going through mine LOL.
Yay! You have a foundation in here too! 😀
I agree, there are just some products that I like using more, aside from whatever I have in my project pan list, so it’ll definitely be really hard to finish off some products if I’m using others haha, but let’s try our best, we have roughly 340 days left this year, so I’m sure we can hit the pan on a few or probably accumulate a bunch of empties. I for one am very excited! 😀 i can’t wait to get this show on the road! haha

  2. My problem with cleansers is I use acne ones so often and so go through normal ones so slowly! With masks, I use a few others often enough that I don‘t need to put them in here. I didn‘t include any sheet masks, but maybe I should have listed finishing off one of my brands/sets, as I like buying bulk packs.
And yes I do like and recommend that Skinfood emulsion! I haven’t come across anything similar. I‘d actually like to try their Peach Sake Serum!
I don‘t think I‘ll finish the foundation up this year, knowing how I am with foundations. But I‘d love to try and get through a lot of it!
I‘m glad you‘re similar with using different products more than these. That makes it part of the challenge and the fun!
